This is a mockup to experiment with some ideas of coloring math for severely dyslexic students. This is not not meant to be used by the student to actually do math.

The page is divided into three areas: the work area where you define the colors and other font aspects for each character, the test area where you can type some linear math to see what your settings look like, and the save/load area where you can save/restore your work.

The palettes have been preloaded with some settings to show some examples. To modify a character:

1. Click on a palette character or directly type the character into the 'Character to Color' area.
2. Select one or more properties to change. You will see the change reflected in the character and in palette and test area.
3. Once you are satisfied with your changes, pick a name and click the 'Save' button to remember the changes for later. To transfer the settings to a different machince, they can be copied to the clipboard, pasted into email or some other means of communication. The reciever can copy those rules to their clipboard and use the paste from clipboard to load them onto their machine. If desired they can save the rules for later.
4. In the box in the test area, you can type a linear expression to see how the coloring looks in a larger context.

Below the palettes is an area where you can add rules for when parens, brackets, etc., match. These rules allow you define the text/highlight color of the parens, the highlight color of the area inside the parens, and an optional border/underline/overline (and its properties) around the matched area. Taken together, these properties can help more quickly identify matching parens, etc. You can create as many rules as you want so that each successive matching paren pair will have different color properties. Use "Add rule" to add a rule and the "X" button to delete a rule. To modify a rule:

1. To modify the colors used for parens, etc., click on the "Paren Color" tab and use the "text color" and "highlight color" pickers.
2. To modify the highlight color used inside the matching area, click on the "Inside Color" tab and use the color picker to choose a highlight color. The checkbox after the color picker is a quick way to make the highlight of the paren be the same as the inside highlight.
3. To emphasize the matched area, a border can be specified by clicking on the "Border" tab. The "style" allows for the specification of boxing the contents, putting a line under the contents, or putting a line above the contents. The thickness and the color of the line/box can be specified with the "Thickness" and "Border Color" options.

Clicking on the triangle on the left of each rule allows you to collapse or expand the rule.
